A $2,795 median climb includes $956 of park fees

TANAPA/KINAPA fees, VAT included, cost roughly $956 on a 7-day camping route — about a third of the median price. That's why a "$1,600 all-in" quote leaves under $95 a day to pay the crew, food, transport and margin. Run any quote through the true cost calculator.

What operators charge per mountain day

Each bar is one of the 24 operators in the index: their median price per day on the mountain, after deducting park fees — the cleanest way to compare a 6-day budget climb with a 9-day luxury traverse. Operator names are withheld in this edition; per-operator pricing lives on their directory profiles.

How to read this

Below roughly $110 per mountain day after fees, something has to give — usually crew wages, food quality or safety equipment. The KPAP porter-wage floor plus a legal crew simply costs more than that. $160–280 is the well-run mid-market where most reputable local operators sit. Above $370 you are paying for foreign-brand margin, small groups, or genuine luxury service — the mountain is the same one.

Methodology

  • What we collected: publicly published 2025–2026 prices from operator websites (and their listings on major booking platforms where the operator's own site blocks robots), USD per person, group join or two people sharing, the operator's standard service tier.
  • Trek days, not package days: foreign outfitters sell "9-day" trips that include two hotel nights. We normalise everything to days on the mountain, so a 9-day package around a 7-day trek is compared as the 7-day trek it is.
  • One vote per operator: where an operator sells multiple service tiers, only the standard tier enters the index. Other tiers are kept in the dataset, flagged.
  • Park fee model: conservation $70/day + camping $50/night (huts $60) + rescue $20, ×1.18 VAT — $955.80 on a 7-day camping route. Matches the Kilihub park fees guide.
  • Exclusions: prices whose packaging was too ambiguous to normalise are excluded from index statistics but retained in the raw data.
  • Independence: no operator paid to be included or excluded. Kilihub takes no commission on bookings.
