Tanzanian-owned operators
Every climb on Kilimanjaro is physically run by a Tanzanian crew. The question is how many companies sit between you and them. The operators below publish Tanzanian ownership — full, or joint Tanzanian-foreign: booking one means your money enters the country in full or in large part, usually at a lower price than the same climb resold from abroad.
Direct booking shifts responsibilities to you: your contract sits under Tanzanian law rather than your home country's consumer protections, and quality varies exactly as much as anywhere else in this directory. The cards below show what each company publishes and what it doesn't.
13 of 28 listed operators match. 8 of the 13 are on the KPAP/IMEC porter-welfare register. Sorted by how much each operator publishes, not by quality. The case for booking a Tanzanian-owned operator direct →

Scores 4 of 4 on our disclosure check - park-fee breakdown, porter pay figures, tipping guidance and crew size are all published, which almost no operator here manages.

Prices are quoted as total trip days, not days on the mountain. The 9-day Machame is a 7-day trek plus two lodge nights. We normalise to trek days so the park fee maths is right.
Who runs the climbs is genuinely unclear from public sources: their about page describes an employee-owned Moshi operation since 2025, while Trustpilot's company description still calls them 'the exclusive agent for The African Walking Company in the US'. A claim would settle it.

One of the highest-volume operators on the mountain (self-reported 200+ guides and staff), yet not on the KPAP/IMEC partner register despite prominent responsible-travel branding.

The '98.8% summit success' figure (98% on the about page) is the operator's own claim; no methodology or independent audit is published.
Trustpilot: profile claimed 2021, still no reviews
Two-entity structure: the contracting party is Duma Explorer, Inc. (US, San Francisco), while ground operations in Tanzania run through 'Alika Africa', described as the Tanzania branch owned by co-founder Omary Ridhiwan; KPAP and TATO each list the entities separately (Duma Explorer/USA on KPAP; Alika Africa/Tanzania on both).

A TripAdvisor Tanzania-forum thread titled 'Beware of Africa Scenic Safaris - SCAM!!' (posted about 2016) concerns a differently named outfit, 'Africa Scenic Safaris' of Arusha. The original poster writes 'There is a big and reputable company called African Scenic Safaris. Notice the difference', and a reply from an Arusha resident also distinguishes the two. The thread does not concern this Moshi operator.
Claims a 98% overall summit success rate on the Kilimanjaro page; no methodology, period or per-route breakdown is published.

After park fees, about $169 per day is left to run the climb on their Machame 7-day, the low end of our typical band. More value-mid than true budget.
Thin public review base: 8 TripAdvisor reviews (5.0) on the main listing, a duplicate TripAdvisor listing with zero reviews, no Trustpilot profile (404) and no SafariBookings profile; Facebook and Google ratings could not be read.

Their published 8-day Lemosho group rate of $1,400 leaves about $36 per person per day after park fees, which lands in our implausible band. That is a question to ask them, not a verdict, but ask it before you book.
After park fees, about $101 per day is left to run the climb on their Machame 7-day, which lands in our very low band.

After park fees, about $113 per day is left to run the climb on their budget Machame 7-day, which lands in our low band.
Ownership is recorded as each company publishes it. Tanzanian-owned is a structure, not a quality grade — the disclosure facts on each card are the quality signal. Jointly-owned companies are both, so they appear here and on the international list.
