Operators that run their own climbs
Ownership tells you where a company is registered; this page asks a different question — when something goes wrong at 4,000 metres, does the company you paid employ the people responsible? The operators below state that they run their own climbs: their guides, their porters, their equipment. That matters for accountability (your questions about oxygen, wages and group size are answered by the people who decide them), and it removes a hidden margin from your price.
One honest caution: for most companies this is what they say, not what we have verified — the provenance chip on each fact shows exactly who said it. And where public evidence complicates a company's own-operation claim, the card carries a flag saying so.

Who runs the climbs is genuinely unclear from public sources: their about page describes an employee-owned Moshi operation since 2025, while Trustpilot's company description still calls them 'the exclusive agent for The African Walking Company in the US'. A claim would settle it.

(US, San Francisco), while ground operations in Tanzania run through 'Alika Africa', described as the Tanzania branch owned by co-founder Omary Ridhiwan; KPAP and TATO each list the entities separately (Duma Explorer/USA on KPAP; Alika Africa/Tanzania on both).

All catalogue-wide rather than Kilimanjaro-specific - and precisely because none of it is invitation-driven, it is worth reading.
Owned by Lindblad Expeditions Holdings (NASDAQ: LIND) since April 2024 via Natural Habitat Adventures - the acquisition is not mentioned anywhere on thomsontreks.com, which still reads as a small family company.

The original poster writes 'There is a big and reputable company called African Scenic Safaris. Notice the difference', and a reply from an Arusha resident also distinguishes the two. The thread does not concern this Moshi operator.

Business-to-business outfitter, not a consumer operator: the site states 'we are a business to business organisation' and offers white-label climbs to other tour operators - climbers will normally book it via a reseller under another brand.
Running your own climbs is a structure, not a quality grade — and an unverified claim is still a claim. Foreign-owned companies with their own Tanzanian crews belong on this page just as much as Moshi firms do.
